Many Palestinian communities, particularly in the West Bank and northern Gaza, are trapped in isolated areas surrounded by ongoing conflict, settler violence, and movement restrictions. Our team’s mission to reach these communities meant navigating treacherous roads, avoiding active combat zones, and staying alert to sudden attacks. We vividly remember one journey to a remote village in the West Bank, where the main road was blocked by debris from recent clashes, and settler violence had made travel nearly impossible.
We had to abandon our trucks and carry aid supplies on foot for five miles, navigating rocky terrain and hiding from armed groups when gunfire erupted nearby. Two of our team members suffered minor injuries from falling rocks, but we refused to turn back—we knew the village had not received aid in over a month, and elderly residents and children were at risk of starvation and illness. When we arrived, the villagers greeted us with tears, their homes damaged by violence and their fields abandoned. We set up a temporary distribution point, provided first aid to those injured in the clashes, and delivered seeds and tools to help farmers restart their livelihoods. The journey was perilous, but the gratitude in the villagers’ eyes reminded us why we had taken on this mission.
